SCBs and DCCBs told to diversify business activities for growth of cooperatives

NAFSCOB conducts regional consultations with SCBs and DCCBs on measures to expand business growth during Amrit Kaal in Lucknow

LUCKNOW, JANUARY 30, 2024: NAFSCOB chairman Mr Konduru Ravinder Rao has called upon the District Cooperative Central Banks (DCCB) and State Cooperative Banks (SCB) for the diversification of the business activities for the steady growth of the cooperatives without deviating from the principles of cooperative spirit.

Participating as special guest at the National Federation of State Cooperative Banks limited (NAFSCOB) regional consultations with SCBs and DCCBs on measures to expand business growth during the Amrit Kaal (2022-47) in Lucknow on Tuesday, Mr Rao said that “without deviating from the principles of cooperatives and according priority for the agriculture, the DCCBs and SCBs should diversify their business activities and upgrade the technology to ensure transparency and good governance”.

Highlighting the need to play a responsible role in achieving the Indian Economy reaching US $ 5 trillion, Mr Ravinder Rao said that the cooperatives should be strengthened and increase their customer base and business activities. He said that the cooperatives alone would play for overall development of Indian economy in general and farm sector in particular.

Uttar Pradesh Minister for Cooperatives JPS Rathore lauded the efforts made by NAFSCOB in strengthening the cooperative sector of the country, He also appreciated the NAFSCOB for organising regional consultations with SCBs and DCCBs and motivating them to diversify their business activities and reap riches and contribute in the growth of Indian economy.

Principal Secretary (cooperatives) BL Meena, NABARD CGM regional office Lucknow SK Dora, CEO DCCB Etah Ashok B Pathak, NAFSCOB Managing Director Bhima Subramanyam and others spoke on the occasion. Several DCCB chairpersons, CEOs and others also participated in the day-long deliberations on various issues.

The meeting discussed at length about recent developments including (i) Draft Model Bye-laws for SCBs and DCCBs, (ii) amendments of bye-laws of National NAFSCOB to allow the associate membership of NAFSCOB to DCCBs, (iii) Assignments to NAFSCOB by MoC to carry out studies on important themes including the current study to suggest ‘measures to expand business growth during Amrit Kaal (2022-2047)’ and compliance of Section 24 of MSCS Act., 2022.

Against this background, NAFSCOB already organized a one-day National Consultation with RCBs in Mumbai.  The NAFSCOB also organised one-day state level consultation on measures to expand business growth during Amrit Kaal at Chandigarh recently. The meeting discussed on measures to expand Business growth /Plan of STCCS during ‘Amrit Kaal’(2022-2047), on the issues arising out of opening membership of NAFSCOB to all DCCBs etc.
