Congress rank and file in dilemma over non-declaration of candidate from Karimnagar parliament constituency

KARIMNAGAR, APRIL 18, 2024: Even as the Congress party high command is dilly-dallying over the official announcement of the party candidate from the Karimnagar parliament constituency, the party rank and file of the constituency have unofficially announced Velichala Rajender Rao as its candidate for the Lok Sabha elections from Karimnagar constituency.

It is surprising to note that the Congress party had launched the conduct of the Assembly constituency-wise meetings in the constituency as part of electioneering to gear up the party machinery, but the official party candidate name was not announced yet on Thursday when the election process had begun with the issuance of notification and filing of nominations by the contestants.

On Thursday morning, Minister for Transport and BC Welfare Ponnam Prabhakar, legislators Kavvampalli Satyanarayana, Adi Srinivas and Medipalli Satyam and former legislators Arepalli Mohan, K Satyanarayana Goud others have launched the electioneering at the SRR college grounds with the walkers. They were appealing the voters to exercise their franchise for the Congress party and not disclosed the name of the contestant.

Similarly, at the Manakondur assembly constituency Congress party leaders meeting at a function hall in Alugunur on the outskirts of the town, the Congress leaders including Minister for Transport Ponnam Prabhakar, legislator K Satyanarayana, Medipalli Satyam, Huzurabad incharge Vodithala Pranav, probable contestant Velichala Rajender Rao and others participated in the meeting. Surprisingly, none of the speakers had announced officially that Velichala Rajender as the official candidate in the elections.

It is surprising to note that the Minister Prabhakar had been frequently saying that when he was MP of Karimnagar parliament constituency from 2009 to 2014, he had taken up several developmental works including train to Tirupati, regional passport office, Kendriya Vidyalaya, FM radio station, national highways, school buildings and more.

Mr Prabhakar was also seen attacking the sitting BJP MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar for neglect of the parliament constituency and not even visiting villages. He also launched scathing attack against BRS contestant B Vinod Kumar

Incidentally, the aspirant Velichala Rajender Rao had also announced that the Congress party had officially not announced the candidate. However, the party is examining his candidature, he claimed. He also stated that all the ticket aspirants would work in unity for the victory of the official party candidate.
