Alleges that Mayor demanding bribes indirectly through employees of MCK for sanctioning of bills
Sohan Singh demands Mayor to resign owing moral responsibility for the defeat of BRS candidate Vinod Kumar in the parliament elections
KARIMNAGAR, JUNE 08, 2024: BRS leader and husband of municipal corporator Kamaljith Kaur, Sardar Sohan Singh has alleged that the Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar is plagued with corruption and demanding five percent commission for the developmental works taken up as part of Smart City project in Karimnagar town.
Talking to newsmen here on Saturday, Mr Sohan Singh said that they had taken up developmental works of laying CC road at Dhobiwada in Karimnagar town to the tune of Rs 16.72 lakhs. But, the municipal authorities at the behest of Mayor Y Sunil Rao were demanding five per cent commission of Rs 85,000 for the clearance of the bill for the payment. Stating that the government had taken up developmental works to the tune of Rs 3,000 crore including Rs 1,000 crore under Smart City project, he charged that the Mayor was resorting to corrupt practices at the cost of the public exchequer.
He alleged that the BRS candidate B Vinod Kumar could not secure more than 19,000 votes in all the 60 municipal divisions in the recent Karimnagar parliament elections due to the corruption by the Mayor. He charged that the Mayor could not stop the municipal corporators shifting their loyalty from BRS to the Congress after the Assembly elections and during the parliament elections.
Demanding the resignation of Mayor Sunil Rao owning moral responsibility for the defeat of Vinod Kumar in the parliament elections, Singh said that the developmental works taken up in his municipal division under LRS scheme and even after submitting MB book, the authorities were demanding bribes at the behest of the Mayor. He alleged that the works sanctioned under LRS were including Municipal council as they did not give bribes.
He charged that the Mayor scared of grilling by the municipal corporators over the corruption charges was not conducting the monthly general body meetings and holding meetings only once in six months and not even allowing the media for the coverage of the same in a transparent manner. Municipal corporator Kamaljit Kaur and others were also present.
