DCA officials seize banned medicines in Karimnagar town  

KARIMNAGAR, MARCH 13, 2024: Officials of Telangana Drugs Control Administration seized a banned drug, ‘Etolar-P Tablets’ (Etodolac & Paracetamol Tablets), in Karimnagar town on Wednesday.

The drug combination, Etodolac & Paracetamol Tablets, which was banned by the Government of India, was illegally manufactured by a Punjab-based firm, Dr Edwin Medilabs Pvt. Ltd., and illegally marketed by Surewin Healthcare, Haryana. The banned drug was detected in Karimnagar by Drugs Control Administration officials, and the stocks were seized.

DCA Director-General VB Kamalasan Reddy said that during the special raids conducted on Wednesday, the DCA officials, detected a prohibited drug, “Etolar-P Tablets” (Etodolac & Paracetamol Tablets), at Srihith Medical Agencies, Seetharampur, Karimnagar town.  The Union government had banned the drug combination Etodolac & Paracetamol Tablets in the larger public interest in the year 2018. This prohibition was enacted due to the potential risks posed to human health by this fixed-dose combination, which was found to lack therapeutic justification.

M Srinivasulu, Assistant Director, Karimnagar, P. Karthik Bharadwaj, Drugs Inspector, Karimnagar are among the officers who carried out the raid. Further investigation shall be carried out and action shall be taken as per the law against all the offenders.

The manufacturing and sale of prohibited drugs (banned drugs), is a grave offence. To combat this issue, surprise checks are being intensified to detect the circulation of banned drugs in the market. Stringent action will be taken as per the law against violators.
