DCA officials seize drugs for making misleading advts and a quack in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD, FEBRUARY 13, 2024: Officials of Telangana Drugs Control Administration have continued their drive against unqualified persons stocking the medicines and misleading the people with false advertisements and quacks in various parts of Hyderabad.

According to DCA Director General VB Kamalasan Reddy, the officials have seized ‘Saheth Care Powder’ at Hikma Sehat Care, Mohalla Gunj, Golkonda, Hyderabad for making misleading advertisement that it treats ‘Diabetes’ and ‘Blood Pressure’. They also raided a quack’s clinic and seized drugs worth Rs. 1,02,000/- stocked for sale at Chandrayanagutta, Bandlaguda,  Hyderabad.

Following credible information, raided Hikma Sehat Care located at  Mohalla Gunj, Golkonda, Hyderabad on Monday and detected ‘Saheth Care Powder’ which bear misleading claims on the label that it treats diabetes and blood pressure, which is a contravention of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954. Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954 prohibits advertisement of certain drugs for treatment of certain diseases and disorders. No person shall take part in publication of advertisement regarding the diseases/disorders indicated under Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.

The officials seized 60 bottles of Saheth Care Powder worth Rs. 18,000/- during the raid. T Rajamouli, Assistant Director, Hyderabad, P. Santosh, Drugs Inspector, Mehdipatnam, Ch. Swapna, Drugs Inspector, Jubilee Hills and V. Ajay, Drugs Inspector, Goshamahal are among the officers who carried out the raid.

In another operation, the officials raided a premise of a quack Imran Khan, at Rahmath Colony, Chandrayanagutta, Bandladuda, Hyderabad, who is claiming himself as a ‘Rural Medical Practitioner’ and practising medicine without qualification at his clinic. During the raid, DCA officials detected huge stocks of medicines found stocked at the premises without any drug licence. About 30 varieties of medicines including antibiotics, analgesics, anti ulcer drugs, antihypertensives, antidiabetics etc.  are found stocked at the premises. DCA officials seized the stock of total worth Rs. 1,02,000/- during the raid. The officials lifted the samples for analysis. Further investigation shall be carried out and action shall be taken as per the law against all the offenders.
