DCA intensifies surveillance, raids quacks clinics and seizes medicines with misleading advertisements

HYDERABAD, APRIL 26, 2024:  Officials of Drugs Control Administration, Telangana have continued their drive against quacks, certain medicines for misleading advertisements and seizure of falsely manufactured medicines in various parts of the state on Thursday and Friday.

In an official release here on Friday, DCA Director-General VB Kamalasan Reddy said that based on credible information, officials raided the premises of two quacks/unauthorized practitioners who were practicing medicine without proper qualifications at their clinics at Kokapet village in Ranga Reddy district and Padmashali colony in Musheerabad, Hyderabad and seized medicines worth Rs 90,000.

The DCA detected certain medicines circulating in the market with misleading claims on their labels, stating that they treat ‘Kidney Stones’ and ‘Radio-Ulnar Neuritis, Lock Jaw and Paralysis’. They detected PATHARCHATADI (STONE CRACKER), an Ayurvedic medicine, the  product label bears a misleading claim stating that it treats ‘Kidney Stones’. Stocks of the medicines were seized during the raid conducted at a medical shop in KPHB, Medchal-Malkajgiri District.

The Drugs Inspector, Jagtial detected VAT RAKSHAS RAS Tablets, an Ayurvedic medicine, with  misleading claim stating that it treats ‘Radio-Ulnar Neuritis, Lock Jaw and Paralysis’. Stocks of the medicines were seized during the raid conducted at a medical shop in Korutla Village, Jagtial District.

The officials of Quthbullapur Zone have detected the product ‘Oxifer-XT Tablets’ (Ferrous Ascorbate, Folic Acid & Zinc Tablets) circulating in the market. These tablets were falsely manufactured under a ‘food license (FSSAI license)’ and falsely claimed to be a food product/nutraceutical. The tablets were found to be illegally manufactured at Eminent Remedies, Plot No: 9/1/A, Road No.14, Near Telangana Foods, IDA, Nacharam, Medchal-Malkajgiri District and were being marketed by Organic Pharma, H. No. 7-67/G3, Hyderabad as a food product/nutraceutical.

Drugs Control Administration officials of Siddipet Zone have detected the product ‘Nurovis-LC Tablets’ (L-Carnitine L-Tartrate, Methylcobalamin and Folic Acid Tablets) circulating in the market. These tablets were falsely manufactured under a ‘food license (FSSAI license)’ and falsely claimed to be a food product/nutraceutical.

The products ‘Oxifer-XT Tablets’ (Ferrous Ascorbate, Folic Acid & Zinc Tablets) and ‘Nurovis-LC Tablets’ (L-Carnitine L-Tartrate, Methylcobalamin and Folic Acid Tablets) must be manufactured only under a ‘drug license’ issued under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, adhering strictly to the ‘Good Manufacturing Practices’ (GMP) outlined in Schedule-M of the Drugs Rules. Additionally, it must meet the quality standards prescribed in the ‘Indian Pharmacopoeia’ (IP) as mandated.
