DCA continues its drive against overpriced medicines and quacks in Telangana state

HYDERABAD, FEBRUARY 22, 2024: Officials of Telangana Drugs Control Administration have continued their drive and seized two overpriced anti-fungal medicines – MRP indicated is very high compared to the Ceiling Price fixed for the product by the Central Government.

DCA Director-General VB Kamalasan Reddy the officials seized two overpriced medicines viz Itraber-200 Capsules (Itraconazole Capsules 200 mg) at Siddipet and Itraley-100 Capsules (Itraconazole Capsules 100 mg) at Balanagar Village, Mahbubnagar District. The product Itraconazole Capsules 200 mg sold under brand name ‘Itraber-200 Capsules’ and the product Itraconazole Capsules 100 mg sold under the brand name ‘Itraley-100 Capsules’ are under price control as per Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013 and the price of the products shall be in accordance with the ‘Ceiling Price’ fixed by National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), Government of India.

But, the Itraber-200 tablet was sold at Rs 45 per capsule against the central government price of Rs 22.12 per capsule and MRP of Rs 24.77 per capsule. They were selling at Rs 20.22 excess per each capsule and they seized stocks worth Rs 9,000. Similarly, the Itraley capsule-100 was being sold at Rs 20 per capsule against central price of Rs 16.67 and MRP of Rs 18.69 per capsule. They were collecting Rs 13.10 per capsule extra and officials seized stocks worth Rs 3,600. Dr J. Raju, Assistant Director, Siddipet, and S. Vinay Sushmi, Drugs Inspector, Siddipet are among the officers who carried out the raid at Siddipet.  B. Dinesh Kumar, Assistant Director, Mahbubnagar, Md. Rafhi Shaik, Drugs Inspector, Jadcherla, Sk. Rabiya, Drugs Inspector, Mahbubnagar are among the officers who carried out the raid at Balanagar Village, Mahbubnagar District.

The DCA officials continued their drive against quacks and raided premises of quacks D. Hanmanth Reddy who is running a clinic Ambatipally Village, Lingal Mandal, Nagarkurnool District and Ayyub Khan who is running a clinic Tadban, Hyderabad. D. Hanmanth Reddy and Ayyub Khan are claiming themselves as ‘Rural Medical Practitioners’ and practising medicine without qualification at their clinics.

During the raids carried out at the said two premises, DCA officials detected huge stocks of medicines found stocked without any drug licence. 45 varieties of medicines including antibiotics, analgesics, anti ulcer drugs, etc. are found stocked at the two premises. DCA officials seized the stocks of total worth Rs.51,500/- during the raids.

Lakshmi, Drugs Inspector, Charminar and Ch. Swapna, Drugs Inspector, Jubilee Hills are among the officers who carried out the raid at Tadban, Hyderabad.
