KARIMNAGAR, JANUARY 30, 2024: Sanjana Thallapelli, a self-employment trainer and nature lover, is winning accolades for turning into an agri-based entrepreneur by taking up apiculture and producing natural honey in Karimnagar district.

A native of Chennaraopet village of Narsampet in neighbouring of Warangal district, Sanjana was married and shifted to Karimnagar town. She had carve a niche for herself and decided to take up self-employment in different field where there is less competition. As she is a nature lover and want to be close to the nature, she had zeroed on taking up apiculture. This ardent lover of nature always wished to barge into the male domain of bee-keeping and narrated the story of how her winged angels helped her to become a successful entrepreneur.

She began had career one-and-half year ago with 10 boxes of bees with very low income and faced several hardships. After undergoing several hurdles and learning the work, she had become expert in the field and took up a loan of Rs 10 lakhs under the PMEGP scheme and set up 200 boxes of bees three months ago. She is producing 500 kgs to 600 kgs of honey per month. The Shree natural honey is sold at Rs 1,000 per kilogram.

Under the brand name of ‘Shree’ natural honey, she is marketing pure honey herself through mouth publicity, friends and relatives. She said that the honey is a natural food. It helps purify the blood, increases immunity, cures liver disorders, coughs, colds and stomach ulcers, she states.

“Whatever business I start, my soul satisfaction is also important. Hence I chose to take up apiculture”, she says proudly. She also trains budding women entrepreneurs in the art of apiculture by designing five-days training session which includes three days theory and two days farm session with the bees in the fields for the benefit of rural womenfolk and make them self-reliant.

Stating that the apiculture was a tough job, Sanjana urged the womenfolk to take up apiculture where there is less competition and huge demand for the natural honey. She said that she provides pure natural honey to the customers and they can visit the field and see the honey is extracted naturally.

She said that they would be collecting the honey from different fields by setting up apiaries. The farmers also call them asking for help to set up apiaries in their fields since bees are good pollinators and bring about better harvest. We set up apiaries at the flowers where we can extract more nectar, she added.
