NTPC Girl Empowerment Mission Workshop transforms girl students to excel in academics

PEDDAPALLI, MAY 10, 2024:  “Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) workshop of NTPC Ramagundam was a turning point in my life. I am from the first batch of GEM programme of NTPC-Ramagundam, I am very thankful to the NTPC management for providing this great opportunity to me. After the GEM workshop they gave us admission to the NTPC Sachadeva School. I want to become an IAS officer and during my GEM period I got this opportunity to meet and interact with IAS officers which motivated me a lot to pursue my dream”, said J Saharsa, GEM student-2019 Batch, who has scored 9.8 GPA in March 2024 SSC examination.

Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM)-2024 Workshop has begun at NTPC Ramagundam in the leadership of Mr Kedar Ranjan Pandu, Executive Director (R&T). GEM was founded in 2018 from NTPC Vindhyachal, Rihand & Singrauli and after its success, it proliferated across various locations within NTPC.

NTPC Ramagundam organised first GEM workshop in 2019, marking the genesis of an unyielding commitment to empowering young girls. This remarkable initiative of NTPC aims to empower young girls and nurture their dreams. This visionary program is a commitment to the upliftment of society and it is fulfilling the dreams of 360 girls since its beginning at Ramagundam.

For this year-2024, 120 girls from neighboring government schools have been selected to take part in this transformative residential program spanning 28 days. Each day commences with yoga, refreshing both body and mind, followed by nourishing meals. Comprehensive classes covering English and Hindi grammar, computer literacy, mathematics, science, life skills, dance, karate, and various co-curricular activities are conducted daily. 28 Days is not the end, but it is the beginning of a whole new journey of these girls as after the GEM Workshop, NTPC Ramagundam selects 10 girls and enrolls them in the schools of NTPC Township fostering a more favorable environment for them to grow.

Two girls J. Saharsa & B. Akshara of GEM-2019 Batch scored 9.8 GPA & 9.7 GPA respectively in their 10th Boards. Moreover, special sessions addressing health education, distinguishing between Good & Bad touch, and career counseling are integral components of the program, fostering holistic development and empowerment among participants. NTPC’s contribution towards social equality and empowerment of young girls to make a difference in their life by exposing them to the various creative and performing arts. Girl Empowerment Mission of NTPC is making the young Girls Future Ready to serve society.
