Food Safety officials inspect hotels in Karimnagar town

Found that they were not following the Food Safety and Standards Act

Hotels were reusing the left-overs for several days and causing serious health problems to customers

Seized expired masalas and other products worth Rs 70,000 from various hotels including star hotels

KARIMNAGAR, MAY 26, 2024: The Food Safety officials have raided several hotels including star hotels in various parts of Karimnagar town and found that the hotels were not following the Food Safety and Standards Act.

The raids were conducted by Warangal Assistant Food Controller Amrutha Sri along with the district local officials on Sunday.  They had found that several hotels were using the expired products to prepare various dishes. They had also found that the hotels were reusing the left-overs for several days and causing serious health hazards to the consumers.

On this occasion, the authorities have seized over Rs 70,000 worth expired masalas and other products in the preparation of various foods. The authorities have also noticed that the hotels were not displaying the FSSAI licence. They had found synthetic food colours in the kitchen, which were discarded. Semi-prepared and raw food items were stored together without proper labelling and covering.

There were no pest control records were not maintained properly. The hotels were found to have violating the norms of wearing hair caps and gloves and other medical fitness certificates.

On this occasion, Warangal Assistant Food Controller Amrutha Sri said that the inspection was conducted to ascertain maintenance of hygiene and quality of food serve. Stating that major violations were found during the inspections, she said that they would serve notices to the hotels which have failed to follow the mandatory norms in providing quality food to the customers. She also said that stern action would be initiated against those violating the provisions of the act and without licence.
