DCA conducts simultaneously raids on medical shops, quacks and illegal drugs across Telangana

HYDERABAD, SEPTEMBER 25, 2024: Officials of Drugs Control Administration, Telangana have continued their raids on illegal medical shops, quacks and illegally manufactured drugs in various parts of the state on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Acting on credible information regarding the illegal sale of medicines, raided a medical shop at Nagulbanda, Falaknuma, Hyderabad which was run by Mohammed Ayub Pasha was illegally without a drug licence.  The DCA officers detected unauthorized stocking of huge quantity of medicines of around 23 varieties of medicines including antibiotics, antihistamines, analgesics, antipyretics, etc. are found stocked for sale at the premises. The seized Rs 32,000 worth medicines. T. Rajamouli, Assistant Director, Hyderabad and B. Lakshmi, Drugs Inspector, Charminar are among the officers who carried out the raid.

In another operatin, the officials premises of a quack K. Laxminarayana, at Konne Village, Bachannapet Mandal, Jangaon District, who was practicing medicine without proper qualification at his clinic. The DCA officials detected 34 varieties of medicines, including antibiotics, steroids etc., found stocked at the premises without a drug licence. DCA officials seized the stock, worth a total of Rs. 20,000/- during the raid.

Officials found ‘steroids’ at the clinic of a quack. Misusing steroids can have serious health consequences, including immune system suppression, hormonal imbalances, muscle and bone weakness, cardiovascular problems, and psychological effects. The indiscriminate use of steroids poses significant risks to public health. M. Aravind Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Jangaon carried out the raid under the supervision of Dr. G. Rajyalakshmi, Assistant Director, Warangal..

In another raid, the officials detected drugs falsely manufactured and sold under the guise of ‘food products/nutraceuticals’  in Sirpur, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad District. They seized the product Pedi Zinc Syrup (Zinc Gluconate Syrup)circulating in the market. The product was found to be manufactured Micro Nutritions, Hyderabad as a food product/nutraceutical.

Drugs Control Administration officials in Bhupalpally have detected the product Ferrorus-XT Tablets (Ferrous Ascorbate, Folic Acid & Zinc Tablets) circulating in the market. The product was found to be manufactured by Kencure Pharmaceuticals, Medchal-Malkajgiri Dist., and marketed by Syrus Pharma, Shankara Kranthi Apartments, Kavadiguda,Hyderabad as a food product/nutraceutical.

The said products were falsely manufactured under a ‘food license (FSSAI license)’ and falsely claimed to be food products/nutraceuticals. According to the label composition of these products, they are classified as drugs under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. G. Aswani, Drugs Inspector, Asifabad, P. Pavani, Drugs Inspector, Bhupalpally and T. Chandana, Drugs Inspector, Mancherial are among the officers who carried out the raids.

The public may report any suspected manufacturing activity related to drugs, including narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, in residential, commercial, or industrial areas, as well as any other complaints regarding illegal activities concerning medicines, through the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana Toll-Free Number 1800-599-6969, which is operational from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm on all working days.
