VIPs make a beeline to Medaram to review arrangements for biennial jatara

MULUGU, FEBRUARY 19, 2024:  With the D-day fast approaching for the biennial Samakka-Sarakka jatara in Medaram village, the VIPs and other top officials were making a beeline to the shrine to review arrangements for the smooth conduct of Telangana state’s biggest tribal festival from February 21 to 24.

On Monday, Minister for Revenue, Housing and I&PR Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy visited the Medaram in an helicopter and offered prayers to tribal goddesses along with Minister for Panchayat Raj Anasuya Seethakka. He offered ‘bangaram’ (jiggery) of a quantity of his weight to the goddesses as an offering. He also offered clothes to the deities and broke coconuts. DGP Ravi Gupta along with Intelligence Chief B Shivadhar Reddy and other top officials visited the Medaram to review arrangements.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Srinivasa Reddy said that the Minister Seethakka was taking all measures for the successful conduct of the biennial jatara with the support of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. Reminding that the BRS government had spent only Rs 75 crore for the festival, he said that the Congress government was spending Rs 110 crore for the jatara at Medaram

Seethakka said that the state government had declared Medaram jatara as state festival in 1996 and urged the Union government to declare it as national festival. She urged the Mulugu assembly segment people to support for the success of the Medaram jatara by helping the devotees.

Earlier, the Ministers inaugurated the Media centre at Medaram along with I&PR special commissioner Hanumantha Rao, Collector Ila Tripathi, Joint Director Jagan and others
