KARIMNAGAR, AUGUST 06, 2024: The surge in land grabbing is not only confined to open plots in Karimnagar town, the land sharks have allegedly encroached upon the storm water drain (nala) at ‘V’ convention on the outskirts of the town.
A minor bridge was constructed on the Rajiv Rahadhari connecting Secunderabad with Ramagudam coal belt via Karimnagar town to let off storm water drain into the Manair river downstream. Surprisingly, the land sharks had not even left the nala from encroachment on the Rajiv Rahadhari at 163.950 kilometer point.
Against three vents of 5.45 meters each totally 16.350 meters, the land grabbers had closed two vents and made illegal constructions reducing the ‘nala’ size to only 5.45 meters and flow of flood waters. The residents have taken the matter to the notice of R&B officials, who maintain the Rajiv rahadhari and also the Revenue authorities, but in vain.
Residents of the town fear that there was every possibility of inundation of the bridge and causing huge damage to the road and disruption of traffic movement during the rainy season as the storm water drain had been reduced by encroaching the vents. They urged the authorities concerned to check the same and rectify it at the earliest and restore old storm water and avoid big damage to the bridge and road.
