HYDEARBAD, NOVEMBER 20, 2024: Officials of Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, continued their drive against unlicensed medical shops, quacks falsely produced medicines and misleading claims by certain medicines in various parts of the Telangana state on Tuesday.
In a statement here on Wednesday, DCA Director-General VB Kamalasan Reddy said that on credible information regarding illegal stocking and sale of medicines, DCA officials conducted a raid at an unlicensed premises located at Thanamcherla Village, Maripeda Mandal, Mahabubabad District. Nimmani Kotaiah had been stocking veterinary drugs at his residence for illegal sale without a drug licence.
During the raid, DCA officers detected the unauthorized stocking of a large quantity of medicines intended for sale. A total of 72 varieties of veterinary medicines were found at the premises, including 58 physician’s samples, 10 salable drugs, 1 expired drug, and 3 institutional supply drugs. Officers seized the stock, worth Rs. 53,691. S Umarani, Drugs Inspector, Mahabubabad and Ch. Anil Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Khammam Urban are among the officers who carried out the raid.
Raids conducted at quacks’ clinics
Based on credible information, the officials raided the premises of quacks who were claiming themselves as ‘Rural Medical Practitioners’ and practicing medicine without proper qualifications at their clinics. During the raids at the following premises, substantial quantities of medicines stocked for sale without a drug license were found. The quacks clinics were raided at Chowdarpally Village, Gandeed Mandal, Mahabubnagar District, Sugur Village, Pebbair Mandal, Wanaparthy District and Adasarlapadu Village, Vemsoor Mandal, Khammam District.
Medicines, including antibiotics, steroids, anti-ulcer drugs, analgesics, anti-diabetics, anti-hypertensives, etc., were found stocked at the premises. DCA officials seized the stocks, worth a total of Rs. 99,650/-, during the special raids. Sk. Rabiya, Drugs Inspector, Mahabubnagar, A. Rashmi, Drugs Inspector, Wanaparthy, K. Devender Reddy, Drugs Inspector, Khammam Rural, S. Vishwanth Reddy, Drugs Inspector, Nagarkurnool, Sri. S. Vinay, Drugs Inspector, Narayanpet are among the officers who carried out the raids.
Seizure of drugs falsely manufactured and sold under the guise of ‘food products/nutraceuticals’
The DCA officials detected drugs falsely manufactured and sold under the guise of ‘food products/nutraceuticals’. They detected the product Feroze-XT Tablets (Ferrous Ascorbate, Folic Acid & Zinc Tablets) circulating in the market. The said product was falsely manufactured under a ‘food license (FSSAI license)’ and falsely claimed to be a food product/nutraceutical. According to the label composition of the product, it is classified as a drug under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. B. Mounika, Drugs Inspector, Medchal and M. Hemalatha, Drugs Inspector, Gandimaisamma are among the officers who carried out the raid.
Seizure of drugs for misleading advertisements:
The DCA detected certain medicines circulating in the market with misleading claims on their labels, stating that they treat ‘Rheumatism, Fevers (in general), Diabetes, Diseases and disorders of the optical system, Kidney Stones’. Such claims are in contravention of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
They seized VOLIRUN Oil, an Ayurvedic medicine, claimed to treat ‘Rheumatism’, Tulasi Leaf Choornam, an Ayurvedic medicine, claimed to treat ‘Fevers’, ED PHENICOL Eye Capsules, an Allopathic medicine, claimed for prophylaxis and treatment of infections of the eye and Urisis Kit, an Ayurvedic medicine, claimed to treat ‘Kidney Stones’. A. N. Kranthi Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Vikarabad, P. Renuka, Drugs Inspector, Musheerabad, T. Praveen Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Bollaram, G. Srikanth, Drugs Inspector, Jinnaram, K. Murali Krishna, Drugs Inspector, Malkajgiri are among the officers who carried out the raids.
