Working Journalists of India (WJI) assures to strive for the welfare of rural journalists in Telangana

RAJANNA-SIRCILLA, FEBRUARY 08, 2025: Ravikanti Srinivas, Telangana state, general secretary of Working Journalists of India affiliated to Bharath Mazdoor Sangh, has assured to strive for the welfare of the rural journalists, who are a neglected lot in spite extensive growth of journalism field in Telangana state.

Launching the membership enrolment drive of the WJI in Sircilla textile town on Saturday, Mr Srinivas expressed concern over a majority of newspapers not even providing ‘line accounts’ to the contributors working in the rural areas. Stating that the journalists alone do not have working hours and assured wages as per their work, he said that the journalists work 24×7 and are underpaid when compared to other professions. He also blamed the management for the neglect of rural journalists.

Stating that the journalist’s associations should exert pressure on the management to ensure justice minimum wages and job security for the rural journalists, Mr Srinivas alleged that the respective associations have neglected the plight of journalists for ‘obvious’ reasons and added that they would fight for the protection of rights of rural journalists. He also exuded with confidence that WJI would emerge as a strong force to reckon with in Telangana for the welfare of journalists.

WJI state vice president T Karunakar and secretary S Pramod Kuamr said that the WJI was committed to the welfare with discipline and dedication. TUWJ (IJU) district treasurer Gangu Satish, joint secretary D Ashok, EC member S Prashanth have resigned to their union and joined WJI in the presence of Raavikanti Srinivas in Sircilla. Local leaders B Parushuramulu, K Santosh, K Srinivas, A Ramesh, N Babu, R Bhaskar, B Ramanatham, A Shankar, M Meghanath Reddy, Bhaskar, D Rajesham and others were also present.
