HYDERABAD, OCTOBER 01, 2024: It is time for celebration, a time for victory of good over bad, A time when the world sees the power of good. Let us continue the same “true” spirit.
The children of The Play School, Sister Nivedita School, Ameerpet, celebrated Dussehra and Bathukamma with grandeur and enthusiasm. The celebration is conducted with the same zeal and energy. The programme began with a soul-stirring bhajan. This was followed by a short skit depicting the atrocities of the demon king Mahishasura and how the Goddess Durga received the superpowers from the lords Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheshwara who then killed Mahishasura in her nine forms.
Children also showcased how Dussehra is celebrated in different parts of India. In North (Punjab) they perform Jagraata all night long. In East (West Bengal) to appease Goddess Durga, devotees perform Dhunuchi along with the rhythmic beats of Dhak. In the west (Gujrat) Garba is the main attraction. In the south (Telangana) Navaratri is celebrated as Bathukamma Panduga. Most devotees worship God with flowers. But the only festival in which flowers are worshipped as God is Bathukamma. Bathukamma means “to come back to life Amma”. The children were then made aware of the importance of Bathukamma, which was celebrated for nine days with different names. The worshipped flowers were carefully immersed in the water, believing they could cleanse the water. The children danced with full enthusiasm to the songs played by their teachers and ended the day with smiles on their faces. It was a spectacular show which completely captivated all the children. Everyone present was completely spellbound by its unique presentation.
The principal, Dr. T. Lalitha Kumari appreciated the efforts of the teachers and children, who made the event spectacular.
The Chairman of the school Dr. Sudhakar Rao Polsani and the Correspondent of the school, Rtn. Hari Hara Prasad also extended their wishes and emphasized that this celebration served as a reminder of the values of courage, righteousness, and resilience in the face of adversity. This festival perfectly embodied our commitment to promoting cultural diversity, nurturing talent, and fostering unity.
Celebrating festivals is an integral part of learning at The Play School. Being a diverse country, through such celebrations, students not only learn the significance behind the festival but also learn to embrace other traditions and cultures just like they do with their own. Celebrations bring the school community together, building a close bond between the children. The Play School’s Dussehra celebration is a time for children to understand the importance of virtues like truth, courage, and righteousness. It’s an occasion to spend quality time with family, friends, and classmates, making it a memorable experience for everyone involved. In conclusion, the celebration of Dussehra in schools is not merely a festivity, but an opportunity to instill values, impart cultural knowledge, and create lasting memories for the students.
