JAGTIAL, AUGUST 20, 2024: Students of Government Degree College for Women, Jagtial town, observed the World Mosquito day by conducting awareness programme on the college premises on Tuesday.
The World mosquito day is celebrated to commemorate Sir Ronald Ross’s discovery that female Anopheles mosquitoes are spreading malaria on August 20, 1897. The Zoology department conducted the programme educating the students to keep surroundings clean and tidy and avoid water logging as mosquitoes may breed and spread diseases.
The students enlightened about the symptoms and prevention of malaria. They also educated about spread of dengue, chikungunya and other mosquito borne diseases. They said fever, headache, vomiting and flu were the symptoms of malaria and added malaria parasite infects and destroys red blood cells, resulting in easy fatigue-ability due to anemia, fits or convulsions and loss of consciousness.
Principal K Ramakrishna, Zoology department head G Neeraja, faculty N Sangeetha Rani, other faculty members G Chandraiah , Pramod Kumar, Vara Prasad, N.Vasavi, K.Ramachandran, D.Sujatha, S.Mallikarjun and others were also present.
