Students conduct awareness programme on World Mosquito Day

KARIMNAGAR, AUGUST 20, 2024: Students of Telangana Social Welfare Resident Degree for women, Naganuru, on the outskirts of Karimnagar town, observed World Mosquito Day by conducting an awareness programme in the vicinity of the college on Tuesday.

World Mosquito Day is celebrated to commemorate Sir Ronald Ross’s discovery that female Anopheles mosquitoes are spreading malaria. The final year students of BSC (life sciences) carrying charts educated the people about the need for the premises to be clean and tidy and avoid water logging as mosquitoes may breed and spread diseases.

The students conducted door to door awareness rally and enlightened the people about the symptoms and prevention of malaria. They said fever, headache, vomiting and flu were the symptoms of malaria and added malaria parasite infects and destroys red blood cells, resulting in easy fatigue-ability due to anaemia, fits or convulsions and loss of consciousness. Principal T Malathi, Vice Principal G Samatha, Zoology department head M Kalyani, faculty member Imaroz and others were also present.
