GDC women, Golkonda, celebrated Telugu Language Day

HYDERABAD, AUGUST 29, 2024: The Telugu department of Government Degree College for Women, Golkonda, Hyderabad, celebrated the Telugu Language Day (Telugu Bhasha dinotsavam) on Thursday to commemorate the birth anniversary of Gidugu Venkata Ramamurthy, who popularised the Telugu idiom and promoted colloquial language.

Principal T Sree Lakshmi launched the celebrations by paying floral tributes to the portrait of Ramamurthy. Academic coordinator NS Rajaneesh, Incharge Telugu department P Ashok, faculty members Sucheta, Sabha Nikhath, Sadiya, Kiran Kumar, Hima Bindhu and others participated in the programme.

The speakers explained the importance of the day which recognises the significance of the Telugu language, one of India’s oldest and most vibrant languages. The origins of the Telugu language trace back to ancient inscriptions and texts, with its classical roots well-documented in literature and linguistic studies. The language evolved through various stages, influenced by political, social and cultural changes over the centuries, they enlightened. The students also explained the importance of the sweet and great Telugu language and about eminent Telugu poets and writers.
