Raids six clinics of quacks in various parts of the state and seizes medicines worth Rs 2.29 lakhs
HYDERABAD, SEPTEMBER 29, 2024: Officials of Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, conducted raids on various clinics operated by quacks and seized illegally stocked drugs worth Rs. 2.29 lakhs intended for sale at various locations across the State, including; Nagole Village, Uppal Mandal, Medchal – Malkajgiri District, Madaram Village, Jinnaram Mandal, Sangareddy District, Puppalguda, Manikonda, Gandipet Mandal, Ranga Reddy District, Mannegudem Village, Dornakal Mandal, Mahabubabad District, Meenajipet Village, Wargal Mandal, Siddipet District and Suraram Village, Quthbullapur Mandal, Medchal-Malkajgiri District on Saturday.
In a statement here on Sunday, DCA Director General VB Kamalasan Reddy said that on credible information, the DC officials raided the premises of quacks/unauthorized practitioners who were practicing medicine without proper qualifications at their clinics. The officials have seized medicines worth Rs 2.29 lakhs from their possession. Anjum Abida, Assistant Director, Shameerpet, Dr. B. Lakshminarayana, Drugs Inspector, Uppal, G. Srikanth, Drugs Inspector, Jinnaram, D. Swetha Bindu, Drugs Inspector, Gandipet, S. Umarani, Drugs Inspector, Mahabubabad, S. Vinay Sushmi, Drugs Inspector, Siddipet and E. Thirupathi, Drugs Inspector, Quthbullapur are among the officers who carried out the raids.
Seizure of drugs falsely manufactured and sold under the guise of ‘food products/nutraceuticals’
The officials during the raids detected certain drugs falsely manufactured and sold under the guise of ‘food products/nutraceuticals’. Drugs Control Administration officials of Medchal Zone have detected the product ‘CCF-D3’ Nano Shot Oral Solution (Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) Oral Solution 60000IU) with label composition Each 5 ml contains Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) 60000 IU circulating in the market. The product was falsely manufactured under a ‘food license (FSSAI license)’ and falsely claimed to be a food product/nutraceutical.
The product was found to be illegally manufactured by Nuvista Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd., Plot No:48, Phase II, IDA, Mallapur, Medchal- Malkagiri District and marketed by Beulah Biomedics, Plot 15, Padmapuri Colony, ECIL Post, Kapra, Medchal- Malkagiri District, as a food product/nutraceutical.
As per the label claim of the product, it is classified as a ‘drug’ according to the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. The product ‘CCF-D3’ Nano Shot Oral Solution must be manufactured only under a ‘drug license’ issued under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, adhering strictly to the ‘Good Manufacturing Practices’ (GMP) outlined in Schedule-M of the Drugs Rules. Additionally, it must meet the quality standards prescribed in the ‘Indian Pharmacopoeia’ (IP) as mandated. G. Sreenivas, Assistant Director, Medchal, B. Mounica, Drugs Inspector, Medchal and M. Sreebindu, Drugs Inspector, Bachupally are among the officers who carried out the raid at a medical shop in Medchal. Samples were lifted for analysis during the raids.
