HYDERABAD, JANUARY 10, 2025: The festival mood set in early at The Play School, Sister Nivedita School, Ameerpet, Hyderabad, as the ‘Sankranthi Samburalu’ was organised with religious fervour and grandeur on Friday.
To imbibe the cultural importance of the harvest festival, the school management had colourfully decorated the school premises with rangolies, kites, toys were tastefully arranged in rows for Bommala koluvu and a shower of ‘bhogi pallu (Indian Cherries) on the little ones, Gangireddu (decorated oxen show) and make-shift ‘bhogi mantalu’ (bonfire) were also set up.
This apart, the Godadevi Kalyanam dance to convey the uniqueness of the festival was also performed by the students. As the chill in the weather has started vanishing with the arrival of the new season, The Play School, Sister Nivedita School, Ameerpet celebrated Sankranthi with fervour and joy. This event was also a collaboration with the National Youth Day Celebration. Drawing inspiration from the profound teachings of Swami Vivekananda, the programme featured an impactful quote. Sankranthi dawned upon our Play School with a burst of colours and enthusiasm! From the traditional attire to the flavourful aroma of festive delicacies. Every corner echoed the spirit of togetherness and heritage. The whole premises looked colourful with beautiful hangings representing the festival. It transported us to a rural panorama, with an enchanting village setup featuring mock huts, agricultural display, and traditional cuisine aroma, beautifully depicting rural life’s charm and simplicity.
The main attractions of the day were the ‘Do Do Basvana’ and the ‘Haridasu’ who visited houses during the period of Sankranthi. The children performed in exuberance under the able guidance of the teachers. The festival teaches us to be thankful to nature for providing us with all the necessary things that help us grow and stay healthy.
The Principal, Dr. T. Lalitha Kumari wished everyone a happy Sankranthi to all the children, teaching and non-teaching staff, and their families. And said that these festivals symbolize India’s cultural heritage. By celebrating these festivals, we can inculcate our cultural traditions among the children. She appreciated the effort of students and staff to make this celebration a grand success.
The Chairman of the school Dr. Sudhakar Rao Polsani and the Correspondent of the school, Rtn. Hari Hara Prasad also extended their wishes and emphasized a cultural mosaic where traditions are celebrated, imbibed, and passed on to generations. Sankranthi is not just a festival; it’s a celebration of learning, heritage, and the collective spirit of the Telugu community.
