DCA officials continue drive against quacks and misleading claims by certain medicines in Telangana state

HYDERABAD, NOVEMBER 28, 2024:  Officials of the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, continued their drive against quacks and misleading claims by certain medicines in various parts of the state.

In a press note here on Thursday, DCA Director-General VB Kamalasan Reddy said that the officials raided a quack Jangam Venkateshwarlu’s clinic and seized drugs stocked for sale at Bommanapally Village, Tekulapally Mandal, Bhadradri-Kothagudem District. During the raid, DCA officials detected 25 varieties of medicines, including antibiotics, analgesics, etc. stocked on the premises without a drug licence. The officials seized the stock, which included 12 varieties of Physician’s Samples. The worth of the stock seized is Rs. 25,000 Ch. Sampath Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Bhadradri-Kothagudem carried out the raid.

In another operation, the officials seized certain medicines due to misleading advertisements: P-MYCETIN Chloramphenicol Eye Ointment I.P 1 % w/w, an Allopathic medicine, claimed for Prophylaxis and treatment of Eye Infections, Utrinax-F Tonic, an Ayurvedic medicine, claimed to treat ‘Disorders of menstrual flow’, E D PHENICOL Chloramphenicol Eye Ointment I.P 1 % w/w, an Allopathic medicine, claimed for Prophylaxis and treatment of Eye Infections and Nihri Syrup, an Ayurvedic medicine, claimed to treat ‘Kidney Stones, Disorders of the prostate gland’.

The Drugs Control Administration, Telangana officials, detected certain medicines circulating in the market with misleading claims on their labels, stating that they treat ‘Kidney Stones, Disorders of Prostate Gland, Disorders of menstrual flow, For Prophylaxis and treatment of Eye Infections’. Such claims contravened the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954. Raju, Drugs Inspector, Hayathnagar, Ch. Anil Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Khammam Urban, R. Srilatha, Drugs Inspector, Nizamabad Rural, J. Sowjanya, Drugs Inspector, Yousufguda, N. Ravikiran Reddy, Drugs Inspector, Sangareddy are among the officers who carried out the raids.

The public may report any suspected manufacturing activity related to drugs, including narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, in residential, commercial, or industrial areas, as well as any other complaints regarding illegal activities concerning medicines, through the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana Toll-Free Number 1800-599-6969, which is operational from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm on all working days.
