A second-year diploma student killed in a hit-and-run case on Wednesday night
KARIMNAGAR, SEPTEMBER 17, 2026: Proliferating private hostels in Thimmapur mandal on the outskirts of Karimnagar town, before the popular engineering colleges, are reportedly causing serious hindrances to their lives due to no proper supervision and discipline.
As it is evident that a girl student studying a diploma in a private engineering college and taking shelter in a private hostel has reportedly been killed in a road accident late at night on Wednesday.
Sources said that Sri Vidya (17), a native of Sircilla textile town, is studying in the second year of a diploma course in Thimmapur in a private engineering college. Instead of joining the engineering college hostel, the girl has joined the SR Reddy private hostel opposite to the college, which lured the students by promising free wi-fi and other sops,
Taking advantage of the lack of supervision of the students, the victim Sri Vidya came out of the college at around 11 pm along with her friends, and while returning to the hostel at around 11.40 pm, she met with an accident while crossing the road when an unidentified vehicle hit her and ran away. The parents have demanded stern action against the hostel management for their inefficiency in controlling the students and leaving them out during the late hours.
The mushrooming of private hostels around the engineering colleges was posing a threat to the student community. The private hostels announce several sops and there is no control over the supervision of the movement of the students.
How can a girl student come out of the hostel at around 11 pm and roam around freely on the roads with her friends, what the private hostel authorities are doing, questioned the parents of students. The parents also questioned the functioning of the food stalls and other eateries till late hours in the vicinity of hostels.
There is no regulation on the functioning of the private hostels and the students move around freely as per their whims and fancies, they said and demanded that the district authorities should take stern action against the private hostels functioning all norms and playing with the lives of innocent students.
It may be recalled that a year ago, a B Tech (CSE) final year student studying in an engineering college and residing in a private hostel was reportedly electrocuted when the hostel management forced him to cut the branches of a grown-up tree in the vicinity.
Usually, the students prefer to reside in ‘private’ hostels, which are proliferating around the engineering colleges. The private hostel management gives complete freedom to students to move out freely. In the college-run hostels, the management does not allow the students to go out and keeps a close watch on their movement and activities.
