KARIMNAGAR, SEPTEMBER 17, 2026: The Department of Microbiology, Telangana Social Welfare Residential Degree College for Women, Karimnagar, celebrated International Microorganisms Day on Thursday (September 17, 2026) under the theme “Celebrating the Invisible World.”
The programme aimed to create awareness among students about the significance of microorganisms and their vital role in human health, the environment, agriculture, medicine and everyday life. Various competitions, including an Essay and Elocution Competition on Antimicrobial Resistance, Rangoli Competition – “Rangoli of Microbes,” Model Presentation Competition – “Meet with Microbes,” and Microbe Mind Maze – a Puzzle Competition, were conducted to promote scientific thinking, creativity and innovation among students.
Principal T. Malathi appreciated the Department of Microbiology for organizing the programme and emphasised the importance of scientific awareness and curiosity among students. Medical Officer Dr M. Chaitanya highlighted the importance of antimicrobial resistance, responsible use of antibiotics, and maintaining proper health and hygiene practices. HoD K. Geetha Rani explained the significant role of microorganisms in various fields and encouraged students to explore microbiology through innovative activities.
P Pravitha of the Department of Microbiology highlighted the importance of microorganisms in maintaining ecological balance and supporting human life, and encouraged students to develop scientific curiosity and explore their beneficial and harmful effects. Senior faculty members E. Venkateshwarlu, P. Shankaraiah, K. Radhika, M. Kalyani, IQAC coordinator G Samantha attended the programme and encouraged the students. Students actively participated in the celebrations and enthusiastically took part in the various competitions. Certificates and attractive prizes were awarded to the winners and participants. The programme was sponsored by the Microbiologists Society, India (MBSI).
