Post-mortem conducted: Samples sent for Laboratory analysis
TIRUPATI, JULY 19, 2026: A nine-year-old male horse recently donated to the Sri Venkateswara Gosamrakshana Shala of TTD died on Saturday, said SV Goshala Director Dr. A.V.N. Sivakumar.
He said a post-mortem examination was conducted to ascertain the exact cause of death, and necessary samples were sent to the laboratory for detailed analysis.
Horse Kept Under Quarantine and Medical Care
The horse was placed under quarantine immediately after its arrival at the Goshala on July 13. Blood and dung samples were sent to the State Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, Tirupati. Preliminary test results indicated that the horse was suffering from chronic liver and kidney ailments.
From the day of its arrival, the horse showed signs of illness, including poor intake of food and water, frequent sitting, lying down, rolling, and difficulty in standing. Veterinary doctors closely monitored the animal and provided necessary treatment and special care based on expert advice.
Despite all medical efforts, the horse did not respond to treatment and succumbed at 10 a.m. on July 18. The donor, Sri Vadivelu Mugandhan of Madurai, had visited the SV Goshala on Saturday morning and was present when the horse passed away.
Post-mortem Findings
A team of veterinary experts from Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University conducted the post-mortem. Preliminary findings revealed that the horse had been suffering from chronic liver, heart, and kidney diseases. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the final post-mortem laboratory report is received.
Following the post-mortem, the horse was buried scientifically as per the prescribed procedure, the SV Goshala officials added.
