Screening is first step towards eradication of cancer, says former MP

KARIMNAGAR, FEBRUARY 04, 2024:  Former Karimnagar MP B Vinod Kumar has said that the screening is the first step towards eradication of cancer in women. To tackle the increasing incidence of cancer in the State, the cancer screening, detecting cancer early, and by creating better awareness of the disease at the community-level is the best solution, he said and added that the cancer is curable if detected early.

Mr Vinod Kumar along with Karimnagar MLA Gangula Kamalakar, Karimnagar Mayor Y Sunil Rao inaugurated a free cancer awareness and screen test camp for women conducted in association with Prathima institute of medical sciences (PIMS) and the Chalmeda cancer institute on the occasion of the world cancer day in Karimnagar on Sunday.

The camp would be conducted from February 4 to 7, 2024 at TTD Kaylana mandapam at Gandhi road in Karimnagar town from 9 am to 4 pm daily. During the camp, the doctors would conduct cancer screening tests for detection of cervical and breast cancer by conducting tests such as Pap smear tests, mammography, gyneac cancer test, X-day and other tests.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Vinod Kumar called upon the womenfolk of the town to utilise the free cancer testing camp for the early detection and curing of the disease. He informed the Municipal corporators to take all measures to ensure that maximum number of woman avail the medical camp and benefitted with the treatment and medication.

He said that the cancer cases were on the rise due to pollution and extensive use of plastics in the day to day life. He said that the awareness was the best medication to check the spread of cancer and its early detection to help the patients to cure the disease. PIMS doctor Dr Madhavi and other from CAIMS cancer hospital were also present.
