Thirteen cases pertaining to misleading advertisements, three cases about price violations and three cases of falsely manufactured and sold as nutraceuticals and one unlicenced medical shop
The public may report any complaints regarding illegal activities concerning medicines through the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana Toll-Free Number 1800-599-6969, which is operational from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm on all working days.
HYDERABAD, JUNE 22, 2024: Drugs Control Administration, Telangana has continued its vigilance and actively monitoring and detecting various offences related to misleading advertisements, price violations, illegal stocking and sale of drugs and seizing drugs that were falsely manufactured and sold under the guise of food products (nutraceuticals).
Accordingly, from June 1 to 21, the DCA officials carried 20 seizures related to various offences involving medicines including 13 misleading advertisements, three each price violations and medicines falsely manufacture and sold as nutraceuticals and one unlicenced medical shop and seized stocks worth Rs 4.5 lakhs in various parts of Telangana state.
The DCA seized 13 medicines for making misleading advertisements claiming that they treat various diseases/disorders, in contravention of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, or Drugs Rules (Schedule J). The seized drugs include; Diabenon syrup at Kukatpally, Pratapa Kasturi at Miryalguda, MD-Tone syrup in Peddapalli, curry leaf powder, Alka shot CP oral suspension, PAAC-250 mg solution and other Ayurvedic products.
They had seized three overpriced medicines viz Mu-Zoc 2 oinment , Cefimaje-100 dry syrup and Itranova capsules. The medical shops were selling the above medicines against the ceiling price fixed by the Union government. The DCA also seized three drugs Zyfer-XT, Thianova and Proferon-XT heamatinic tablets which were falsely manufactured and sold as nutraceuticals.
As per the label claim of the products, Zyfer-XT (Ferrous Ascorbate, Folic Acid Tablets), THIANOVA (Thiamine Mononitrate Tablets 100 mg), and Proferron-XT Haematinic Tablets (Ferrous Ascorbate, Folic Acid & Zinc Tablets) are classified as ‘drugs’ according to the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. The said products must be manufactured only under a ‘drug license’ issued under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, adhering strictly to the ‘Good Manufacturing Practices’ (GMP) outlined in Schedule-M of the Drugs Rules. Additionally, it must meet the quality standards prescribed in the ‘Indian Pharmacopoeia’ (IP) as mandated.
The DCA officials carried out a raid at a medical shop in Mahbubnagar operating without drug licence and 65 varieties of drugs from Sheri Lavakusha Reddy.
The public may enter the name of the pharmacy or medical shop in the ‘search box’ under ‘Third Party Verification’ on the ODLS website at https://odls.telangana.gov.in/ThirdPartypublicview.aspx. This allows them to verify the details of drug licences issued by the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, to the medical shop or pharmacy, ensuring they are authorized to sell medicines.
