A matter of pride for the entire Telangana

Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu has assured full support for the Angul Area Development
HYDERABAD, APRIL 16, 2024: Telangana’s Deputy Chief Minister, Finance and Energy Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu virtually inaugurated the Singareni Collieries Company Limited Naini coal block in Odisha from Mahatma Jyoti Rao Phule Praja Bhavan on Wednesday (April 16, 2025), and extended his best wishes.
Speaking on the occasion, he stated that for the first time in its 136-year history, Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) is beginning mining operations in another state, marking a golden chapter in its history. The commencement of the Naini mine in Odisha signifies Singareni’s entry into a new era of global expansion.
He said that opening a mine in Odisha is a moment of happiness not just for Singareni but for the entire state of Telangana. Even though the Naini coal block was allotted to Singareni nine years ago, delays in obtaining various clearances prevented its commencement. However, their government assumed office last year, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and himself pursued the matter vigorously with the Union Coal Minister several times and successfully secured the required permissions.
He credited this swift progress — from pursuing permissions to starting operations within a year — to the proactive commitment of the Telangana government, reflecting its dedication towards the development of Singareni.
He described the Naini coal block inaugurated today as the first step in Singareni’s broader expansion, hinting at further ventures into other states and countries, and stated that Singareni will soon transform into a global company.
On this occasion, he expressed gratitude to Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy, Union Minister from Odisha Dharmendra Pradhan, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, local MLA Agasti Behera, and other public representatives for their cooperation.
Commitment to Angul’s Development
Referring to his visit to Odisha in July last year, Mr. Bhatti Vikramarka reiterated that Singareni is committed to fulfilling every promise made towards the development of the Angul region. He assured that Singareni, being a public sector undertaking, would not function solely for commercial purposes but would operate with a sense of social responsibility, initiating various welfare programs.
To further enhance employment opportunities for local people in the Angul region, he announced plans to set up a 1600 MW thermal power plant near Naini and sought the cooperation of the Odisha government for land acquisition. He emphasized that Singareni, launching coal mining operations in another state for the first time, would maintain this mine as a model of excellence.
On behalf of the people of Telangana and Chief Minister Mr. A. Revanth Reddy, he conveyed special greetings and good wishes to the people of Odisha.
Historic Milestone for Singareni
Energy Department’s Chief Secretary Mr. Sandeep Kumar Sultania, participating in the event, described the launch of Singareni’s coal mine in Odisha as a historic occasion and one that would greatly contribute to Singareni’s future growth.
Local MLA Mr. Agasti Behera, attending as a guest at the inaugural ceremony held at the Naini coal mine, expressed his happiness over the establishment of Singareni’s coal mine in their region and assured complete support. He also appealed for cooperation in Angul’s overall development and extended his congratulations to Telangana’s Deputy Chief Minister and Singareni CMD.
CMD Mr. N. Balaram, who presided over the inaugural function from Naini, credited the proactive initiatives and cooperation of Telangana Chief Minister Mr. Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Bhatti Vikramarka for enabling the launch of the Naini coal block. He announced plans to start a thermal power plant under the guidance of the state government and undertake further development and expansion projects successfully.
Participating in the event from Praja Bhavan were TRANSCO CMD Mr. Krishna Bhaskar, OSD Mr. Surender Reddy, Singareni ED (Coal Movement) Mr. S.D.M. Subhani; and from Naini — Directors Mr. L.V. Suryanarayana, Mr. K. Venkateshwarlu, Naini GM Mr. T. Srinivasa Rao, and others.
