TSWR Degree College for Women celebrates National Sports Day and Telugu Language Day in Nagunuru

KARIMNAGAR, AUGUST 29, 2024: The Telangana Social Welfare Residential Degree College for Women in Nagunuru on the outskirts of Karimnagar town celebrated the National Sports Day and Telugu Language Day separately to commemorate the birth anniversary of Hockey legend Mayor Dhyan Chand and Gidigu Venkata Ramamurthy, who popularised the Telugu idiom and promoted colloquial language, respectively on Thursday.

College Principal T Malathi launched the celebrations by paying floral tributes to the portrait of Dhyan Chand and Gidigu Venkata Ramamurthy hoisting the sports flag and conducting the sports events for the students. She acquainted the students with the theme of the National Sports Day and also told them about the importance of sports in their lives to keep themselves fit, physically as well as mentally.

She also mentioned the importance of promoting Telugu and appreciated its sweetness and greatness. She said the day recognises the significance of the Telugu language, one of India’s oldest and most vibrant languages. The origins of Telugu language trace back to ancient inscriptions and texts, with its classical roots well-documented in literature and linguistic studies. The language evolved through various stages, influenced by political, social and cultural changes over the centuries, she stated.

Karimnagar MPDO A Sanjeeva Rao visited the college and inspected the premises and instructed the college authorities to keep the premises clean and tidy to check the spread of seasonal diseases, which have become ramphant in the district. Vice Principal G Samatha, senior faculty members D Srihari and Padmaja, PET Parveena Begum, Telugu department head Erroju Venkateshwar Rao and faculty member Ch Kavitha, NSS programme officer K Geetha Rani and others were also present.
