K M Dayashankar

HYDERABAD, AUGUST 23, 2024: Tiny Tots of The Play School, Ameerpet, Hyderabad, celebrated a Janmashtami ceremony in the kindergarten wing of the school with religious fervour and gaiety on Friday.

Students celebrated the birth of Lord Krishna albeit Janmashtami, who is known for his wisdom and compassion. Devotees celebrate the day with reverence and devotion and see Sri Krishna as a symbol of love, righteousness, and divinity. His teachings and life inspire devotees to live a life based on dharma (righteousness), karma (action), and bhakti (devotion).

The tiny tots came dressed up as Radha and Krishna and a special assembly was organised wherein the students presented songs, dance performances and a short role-play. The tiny tots began the celebrations with the recitation of a ‘bhajan’, followed by dancing to the tune of songs like ‘Radha on the dance floor’.

The schools celebrate Janmashtami with activities such as decorating clay pots or paper cups with paint, stickers, and colourful ribbons. Another activity is to hang a pot filled with butter high up and have students form human pyramids to reach the matkas and break them. The festival is often colourful, with flowers and painted pots.

What a day filled with joy and laughter at The Play School, Sister Nivedita School Ameerpet as our preprimary stars transformed into adorable Radha and Krishna for Janmashtami celebrations! From enacting Krishna’s birth to dancing adorably and breaking pots in the exciting ‘matki phod’, they truly stole the show. Lord Krishna is usually kids’ favourite God due to their appearance and popular childhood tales. He is also portrayed as a kid which makes children feel familiar to Krishna.

Lord Krishna is said to be the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu. The main significance of Janmashtami is togetherness. The tiny tots had an immersive experience as they learned about the life and teachings of Lord Krishna in a child-friendly way. The entire school premises was decorated with flowers, swings, and pictures of Lord Krishna. Beautiful decorations were put up to make the event more cheerful.

The programme began with a classical dance praising the beauty of Lord Krishna and the children mesmerized everyone with their moves, it continued with a musical dance drama where Lord Krishna’s birth and varied images of Lord Krishna transported one to the world of splendour, colour, myth, and legend. It was a beautiful presentation with joyous melody and twirling dances. It was followed by a dialogue between Lord Krishna and Arjun on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. The Senior Toddlers participated in a ramp walk and graced the stage dressed up as Radha and Krishna. The main attraction of the event was the “Dahi Handi” ceremony. The lively performance created an aura of gaiety and enchantment. This Dahi Handi brought laughter and excitement to the young minds as they tried to break the “Dahi Handi” with the help of their Principal Dr. T. Lalitha Kumari.

“Greatness of a culture can be found in its festivals” and in India, different cultures and religions get tied together in bonds of love with invisible threads of celebrations.

The principal blessed all the students on this auspicious day and gave them the message as always, looking ahead instead of reminiscing in the past. She also appreciated the efforts of the students and encouraged them to stay attached to their traditions and culture.

The Chairman of the school Dr. Sudhakar Rao Polsani, and the Correspondent of the school, Rtn. Hari Hara Prasad also extended their wishes and said that Janmashtami is not just about fun; it also teaches valuable lessons of devotion, friendship, and the victory of good over evil through the stories of Lord Krishna.

Krishna Janmashtami is not just a celebration; it is a wonderful learning experience that will leave a lasting impression on the young minds of the students.
