KARIMNAGAR, FEBRUARY 17, 2024: Economics department of Satavahana University, which has conducted a short-term empirical research project has conducted a one-day workshop on ‘A study on Sukanya Samridhi Yojana (SSY) in Rural Telangana – A national scheme for its financial inclusion’.
The project was sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), Ministry of Education, New Delhi. Project director is Assistant Professor (Economics) K Srivani and co-director Associate professor (Sociology) K Padmavathi.
Dr M Vijaya Lakshmi of Sanjeevani hospital in Karimnagar, who has emerged as a role model in the Telangana state by distributing the SSY scheme policies to the girl child born in her hospital, said that she had launched the scheme of distributing the SSY policies to the parents after the delivery of girl child in her hospital since January 2022. Usually, the parents feel a burden after delivery of a girl child, she said and added that the SSY had come as a boon to the parents with less investments for the education and marriage of girl child. She said that she was making her first contribution of Rs 3,000 for each SSY policy and motivating the parents to save regularly for the bright future of girl child.
Speaking on the occasion, Satavahana University Vice Chancellor S Mallesham said that the Sukanya Samridhi Yojana is the government guaranteed scheme for the upliftment of girl child under the ‘Beti bacho – Beti padao’ scheme. ICSSR Director B Sudhakar Reddy said that this project would be immense useful for the students and faculty members .
Superintendent of Posts K Shivaji explained the importance of small savings for a bright future of the girl child. He said that the SSY scheme had come as a boon for the parents having girl child. He said that the parents would also get tax exemption for saving for the girl child under SSY. University Rgistrar Varaprasad, University college of arts and social sciences principal Nasiruddin Munawar, project assistants Amul, Vidyasagar, Kanthaiah, Venkatesh, Sandeep and faculty members were also present.
