Students of Sister Nivedita School remember Kaloji on his birth anniversary

HYDERABAD, SEPTEMBER 09, 2024: Students of Sister Nivedita School, Ameerpet, Hyderabad, celebrated the Telangana Language Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Kaloji Narayana Rao, who brought recognition to the Telangana language and culture through his poetry, with lots of enthusiasm on Monday.

The event began with a student from Class X embodying Kaloji Narayana Rao, one of Telangana’s most revered poets and freedom fighters. In full costume, the student recited one of Kaloji’s iconic poems while also introducing the programme by emphasizing Kaloji’s contributions to both the Telugu language and the formation of moral character.

Kaloji, a social reformer who participated during the first Telangana statehood movement in 1969, was popularly called ‘Praja Kavi’ for his ability to articulate the struggles and aspirations of the common people. His poetry often focused on social justice, human values, and the Telangana people’s identity. His notable literary contributions include ‘Na Godava’, a collection of poems filled with wit, satire, and social commentary. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1992 for his literature and public service contributions.

The programme’s highlight came with a dual-role performance portraying both Lord Yama and his scribe Chitragupta by student. This exceptional depiction left the audience in awe, earning well-deserved applause.

A captivating skit based on “Golla Suddulu,” an age-old Telangana folktale, focused on Lord Krishna’s stories, packed with moral lessons. This segment was equally engaging, weaving tradition with entertainment, and keeping the audience enthralled.

Adding to the cultural vibrancy, a student delivered spirited dialogues portraying Rani Rudrama Devi. Through these dialogues, the bravery and heroism of the Kakatiya kings were showcased, stirring a sense of pride among the attendees. The event also included energetic performances of songs and dances, all highlighting the beauty of Telangana’s culture and the significance of the Telugu language.

Principal Dr. T. Lalitha Kumari concluded the programme with a poignant speech, emphasizing the importance of the day and its significance in preserving and promoting Telangana’s rich linguistic and cultural heritage. The day was a true celebration of Telangana’s history, language, and cultural pride.

Dr. Sudhakar Rao Polsani, Chairman of the school, Mr M. Hari Hara Prasad, correspondent of the school appreciated both students and teachers for such an amazing and wonderful performance.
