Students plant saplings to develop Miyawaki forest on JITS campus

KARIMNAGAR, AUGUST 21, 2024: The Jyothishmathi Institute of Technology and Sciences (autonomous) celebrated the B Tech first year students’ orientation programme with a difference by making the students and their parents together plant saplings on the sprawling campus on the outskirts of Karimnagar town on Wednesday.

The management of JITS, which had completed 27 years of existence, had thought of something innovative. Instead of giving routine speeches at the orientation programme, the college had decided to develop a Miyawaki forest by the new students on its premises and dug pits and secured saplings for the plantation.  After the formal conduct of orientation programme in the auditorium, the students and their parents were made to arrive at proposed Miyawaki forest block on the college premises.

Each student and parent were allocated a pit and sapling and asked them to plant the sapling. The students were also informed to bring their name board and place at the sapling and nurture it daily till complete their course.

JITS chairman J Sagar Rao and Secretary J Sumith Sai had formally launched the plantation of saplings as part of Miyawaki forest along with the students and the parents.  Speaking on the occasion, Mr Sagar Rao said that they had taken up the plantation of saplings for a greener and sustainable tomorrow by raising plants in the Miyawaki forest on the premises by the students.

Similarly, the students of the college would be nurtured and transformed into future citizens of the country, who would help the society as well as their family by settling in their chosen career, he said and added that the plants after its proper nurturing and growth are doing the same to the nature by providing food to the people and striving for protection of environment from pollution, he stated.

“We made the students to plant along with their parents on the very first day of their visit to the college, so that they would remember it throughout his life and nurture the sapling till he completes his course and settles in life”, he maintained.

The parents and students have thanked the JITS management for taking up a novel programme for making them to plant a sapling on the first day of the college. They said that the students would definitely nurture the plant planted by him till he completes his graduation course and whenever he visits the college as an alumnus, he would definitely visit the plant which he had planted and recollects the memories.

Earlier, JITS Principal Dr KS Rao and Dean PK Vaishali introduced the students to the academic traditions, ethos and academic culture of JITS as well as to its various departments and facilities including modern laboratories and sprawling digital library.

JITS Secretary J Sumith Sai explained to the students that the JITS was the first college in the region to secure UGC autonomous status, NBA and NAAC A plus accreditation. Stating that the college had signed an MoU with Louisiana Tech University of USA, he said that they would very soon sign  MoUs with several other universities of USA and Australia.
