

HYDERABAD, OCTOBER 29, 2024: Students of Sister Nivedita School, Ameerpet, Hyderabad celebrated the Swami Vivekananda’s disciple Sister Nivedita’s 157th birth anniversary by organising various cultural programmes as part of English Literary Day on Monday.


The students remembered the services of Irish born social worker Sister Nivedita, after whom the school is named, like her services to educate girls, promote Hindu philosophical movement Vedanta in the form of a skit. As her name Nivedita means “Dedicated to God” she gave herself to the cause of reforming India, working for the cause of women’s education. She introduced singing of Vandemataram in her school.
To commemorate the spirit of literature, students actively participated in various programmes such as recitation, dances, songs, monologue, mime and skits. The highlight of the day was the recitation of the poem Casabianca. The hilarious skit “says Dogberry to the watch” , the skit Aksharapuri with the moral to give up pride were enjoyed by the gathering.
Rabindranath Tagore’s poems vocation and “where the mind is without fear” were made easier and simpler by dancing to the tunes. Dr Sudhakar Rao Polsani sent his greetings on the auspicious occasion. Correspondent of the school Rtn. Hari Hara Prasad graced the occasion. Dr Lalitha Kumari, Thota, Principal and Director Academics blessed the students and suggested students to develop reading as a habit. She emphasized on participation in various events including sports which lead to the holistic development of the child. The whole school reverberated with the essence of literature which was a unique feeling for literary lovers.
