DCA officials raids 15 medical shops on premises of government hospitals

Found several violations of possessing physician’s samples, expired drugs, selling medicines without prescriptions etc

DCA issues show-cause notices to all 15 medical shops

HYDERABAD, OCTOBER 29, 2024: Officials of the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, conducted raids at fifteen private medical shops located on the premises of Government Hospitals in Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Warangal, and Karimnagar. Several violations were reported, including the possession of Physician’s Samples and expired drugs. The authorities have issued show cause notices to all the medical shops to initiate appropriate action as per the Drugs rules.

DCA Director-General VB Kamalasan Reddy said that the officials have 15 medical shops viz Vyshnavi Medical and General Stores, Jeevan Usha Sravanthi Generic Medical Stores, Quli Qutubshah Medical and General Stores, Jeevandhara Pharmacy, Amrit Pharmacy (a unit of HLL Life Care Limited) – located in the premises of Osmania Hospital, Hyderabad.

Sai Pharmacy Chemists and Druggists, Amrit Pharmacy – located in the premises of Niloufer Hospital, Hyderabad. Jana Jeevani Jyothi Stores – located in the premises of Government Maternity Hospital, Petlaburz, Hyderabad. Thirumala Medical and General Stores, Sri Sai Medical and General Stores, G.P. Mohith Medical and General Stores – located in the premises of Gandhi Hospital, Secunderabad.

Praja Aarogya Pharmacy (Women Medical Social Service Organization), Amrit Pharmacy (a unit of HLL Life Care Limited), Rani Rudrama Devi Jeevandhara Pharmacy – located in the premises of MGM Hospital, Warangal. Jeevandhara Pharmacy (Generic Medical Shop), Praja Aarogya Pharmacy (Women Medical Social Service Organization) – located in the premises of Government General Hospital, Karimnagar.

During the raids, several violations were reported: drugs were sold without a prescription from a registered medical practitioner and in the absence of a registered pharmacist; registers for Schedule drugs were not maintained; sales and purchase bills were not produced; drugs were not stored according to recommended storage conditions; physician’s samples and government supply drugs were found on the premises; and expired drugs were identified.

Show Cause Notices have been issued to all fifteen medical shops regarding the reported violations of the Drugs Rules.

Action will be taken against these medical shops for the identified violations after receiving their explanations in response to the notices, in accordance with the provisions of the Drugs Rules.
