A thought honoured by Sister Nivedita School as it marks Earth Day with passion and purpose
HYDERABAD, APRIL 22, 2025: Sister Nivedita School, Ameerpet, Hyderabad, celebrated World Earth Day and paid tribute to the earth through various educational and creative activities. Students shared their love for the planet through speeches, poems, declamation, poster making and slogan writing activities.
In an inspiring celebration of Earth Day, students of the school organized a vibrant and meaningful programme under the powerful theme “Our Power, Our Planet.” The event aimed to raise awareness about environmental protection and sustainability while engaging students in thoughtful and creative expressions of their responsibility towards nature.
The celebration commenced with a thought-provoking introduction on the significance of Earth Day, highlighting the urgent need to preserve and protect our planet in the face of growing environmental challenges. The message emphasized that Earth Day is not just a day of reflection but a call to action for every individual to take conscious steps towards a greener, healthier world.
A soulful song on Earth Day followed, performed by the students. The touching lyrics celebrated the planet’s beauty and reminded everyone of their role as caretakers of Mother Earth.
Next, students delivered a captivating dance performance, artistically portraying the harmony of the Earth’s elements and the consequences of human negligence. The performance was not only visually stunning but also carried a strong emotional appeal, urging the audience to reconnect with nature.
The event then moved to the formal segment, where Principal Dr. T. Lalitha Kumari extended a warm welcome to the distinguished guests.
The school had the honour of hosting Chief Guest Dr. W.G. Prasanna Kumar, a senior social scientist associated with the Telangana Pollution Control Board, renowned for his work in community engagement. Other dignitaries include Dr. Sumalini, a faculty member from the Department of Education, University of Hyderabad, and Dr. Dharmendra Rao, District Science Officer of Hyderabad.
The Principal, Dr. Lalitha Kumari, addressed the gathering with an inspiring message, emphasising the role of education in shaping environmentally conscious citizens. She encouraged students to become proactive in protecting the environment through daily actions and awareness.
Chief Guest Dr. W.G. Prasanna Kumar delivered a compelling address, enlightening the students about their responsibilities towards Mother Earth and Mother Nature. He spoke about sustainable living, the role of youth in environmental advocacy, and how small changes can make a significant impact when adopted collectively.
The event continued with a dramatic skit, powerfully depicting the pollution of Earth’s natural elements—air, water, and soil—and the necessity for their conservation. The students’ performance conveyed a strong message on the consequences of environmental neglect and the hope that lies in collective action.
To reinforce environmental concepts in a fun and engaging way, students participated in a game based on renewable and non-renewable resources and their sustainability. The activity helped reinforce the importance of sustainable energy choices in daily life.
In a heartfelt gesture of appreciation, the Principal was felicitated by the Chief Guest, and saplings along with mementoes were presented to all the esteemed guests, symbolizing growth, life, and the shared commitment to a greener future. Dr. Sudhakar Rao Polsani, Chairman of the school, Rtn. Hari Hara Prasad, Correspondent of the School, extended their appreciation for the initiatives taken by the staff and students in celebrating this important occasion.
The event concluded on a patriotic note with the rendition of the National Anthem, leaving everyone with a renewed sense of responsibility and hope for a sustainable tomorrow.
