KARIMNAGAR, NOVEMBER 08, 2024: The residents of Ramnagar, Padmanagar and other colonies of 16th Municipal division of Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar (MCK) have urged the Telangana Pollution Control Board to take necessary steps to check pollution being emanated from the Karimnagar Dairy albeit Karimnagar Milk Producer Company Limited in Karimnagar town.
The residents under the banner of Karimnagar Dairy Pollution victims and the leadership of Municipal Corporator Bonala Srikanth visited the TPCB office in Hyderabad and submitted a memorandum against the Karimnagar Dairy to the Member-Secretary Ravi Gogulothu on Friday. The Member-Secretary had assured to solve their problem within two months.
The residents alleged that the Karimnagar Dairy was emanating pollution and the thick smoke from the chimney was polluting the vicinity of the dairy where several colonies have come up. They also charged that the ground was completely polluted with total dissolved solids (TDS) reaching dangerous 3,500 which is injurious for consumption and usage for other purposes. They also stated that the people were suffering from skin allergies and asthma due to pollution.
However, the Karimnagar Dairy authorities have clarified that the Dairy was not an industrial unit to cause pollution. They said they were treating the sewage at the Effluent treatment plant (ETP) on the premises and reusing the same to water the plants and also cultivation of fodder on the dairy premises. They said that they were not releasing the effluent into the open ground. The officials also reminded that all the dairies such as Vijaya Dairy in Lalapet, Hyderabad, Mother Dairy in New Delhi, Nandini Dairy in Bengaluru and other dairies are located in the heart of the towns.
