India reports three HMPV positive cases among infants including two in Bengaluru and one case in Ahmedabad
BENGALURU, JANUARY 06, 2025: In the wake of detection of two cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in Bengaluru city, the Karnataka state government has issued an advisory informing the people to wear facemasks when they are moving in the densely populated areas in the state.
In an advisory issued on Monday, the Director of Medical Education alerted the people to wear facemasks as a precautionary measure to check the spread of the HMPV virus. Stating that the HMPV, a respiratory illness with symptoms resembling influenza and COVID-19, the Karnataka government has issued an advisory informing the people to wear masks, maintain social distancing and seek medical attention for persistent respiratory symptoms.
It may be recalled that the country had reported three HMPV cases on Monday including two in Bengaluru and one case in Ahmedabad in Gujarat state. The Karnataka government has informed the authorities to report any HMPV cases to ICMR and the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) network or Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) cases in the country.
