KARIMNAGAR, NOVEMBER 14, 2024: The National Library Day was celebrated at Telangana Social Welfare Residential Degree College for Women in Nagunuru on the outskirts of Karimnagar town on Thursday.
On this occasion, the participants paid floral tributes to Father of the Library Science movement Dr SR Ranganatham on the occasion of his birth anniversary. College principal T Malathi, SRR college Librarian G Krishna Reddy, Vice Principal G Samatha, faculty members Padmaja, college librarian Lalitha Sharma, Shankaraiah and others were also present.
Remembering the services of Ranganathan and his works and various issues of library sciences, the speakers said that he was the founder of the library science movement in the country and no one had been able to reach the kind of achievement and the efforts that he had made in this regard. “There is a need to open more libraries in the city so that the power of books could reach every section of society,” they added.
College Librarian Lalitha Sharma said that about 30 students from the social welfare residential college have joined the six-month Certificate course in Library Sciences offered by the SRR college in Karimnagar town.
