
HYDERABAD, MARCH 02, 2025: The Geological Survey of India (GSI), is a premier Geoscientific Organization established in 1851. It is the largest and second oldest geological survey in the world. It is responsible for conducting geoscientific surveys across the country, providing essential information on Earth science to the government, industry, and the public.
To commemorate its 175 years of service to the nation, GSI Southern Region (SR) and Training Institute (TI) in Hyderabad organized a walkathon event at Sanjeevaiah Children’s Park, Necklace Road, Hyderabad, on Sunday (March 2, 2025). The primary objective of this walkathon was to raise public awareness about GSI’s 175 years of service to the nation’s development. The event not only highlighted GSI’s contributions but also emphasized the importance of physical activity and mental well-being within the community.

Mr S.D. Patbhaje, Additional Director General and Head of GSI Southern Region, inaugurated the event in the presence of senior officers of GSI. Chairman of the event, Mr S.D. Patbhaje released a Souvenir and addressed the gathering during the Walkathon. He also inaugurated an exhibition stall set up showcasing samples of various minerals, rocks, ores, fossil fuels, and fossils discovered by GSI since its inception in 1851.
The walkathon event was initiated by the release of 175 tricolour balloons by the senior officers of GSI, symbolizing 175 years of GSI’s glorious service to the country. After the inauguration, all the participants walked from Sanjeevaiah Children’s Park to Spoorthi Sthal and back to Sanjeevaiah Children’s Park, covering a 3-kilometer stretch along Necklace Road, Tank Bund, Hyderabad.
Over 1,000 members, including dignitaries, officers, and staff of GSI, along with students, academicians, geoscientists from various organizations, and the general public, participated in the event, said Mallesh Ganji, Senior Geologist and PRO, GSI, Hyderabad.
