KARIMNAGAR, SEPTEMBER 28, 2024: As a prelude to the start of the ensuing nine-day Bathumakka festivities, the festival of flowers, is celebrated with much pomp and gaiety by the students and women faculty members and mothers of students of the Vivekananda Residential School (CBSE) in Karimnagar town on Saturday evening.
The Bathukammas were decorated colourfully by using different varieties of flowers including traditional flowers such as Tangedu, Gunugu, marigold, chrysanthemum, louts etc in a conical shape and worshipped goddess Gauri.
Later, all the womenfolk danced around the Bathukammas placed at a centre on the sprawling premises by singing traditional songs. Some womenfolk played kolatam also around the Bathukammas.
The school was abuzz with vibrant colours and cultural enthusiasm as it celebrated the Bathukamma festival with great fervor. The rhythmic beats of Bathukamma songs resonated through the air, as students, mothers, and staff participated in traditional folk dances, creating an atmosphere filled with joy and cultural pride.
Dr. T. Lalitha Kumari Director (Academics), along with the Principal Renuka Balivada initiated the celebration by carrying the Bathukamma, symbolizing unity and festivity. Students, parents, and staff participated enthusiastically, forming groups to perform various folk dances, creating an energetic and spirited atmosphere dressed in traditional attire, around the floral Bathukammas. The event also featured lively Dandiya performances, where parents actively joined in, adding to the festive joy. The celebration not only instilled a sense of pride in Telangana’s heritage but also emphasized the importance of respecting and preserving cultural traditions.

The Bathukamma celebration at Vivekananda Residential School was a true reflection of the school’s commitment to promoting cultural awareness and unity among its community.
