KARIMNAGAR, JANUARY 11, 2025: Students of Manair High School, Padmnagar, Karimnagar, traditionally ushered in Sankranthi festivities by letting their creativity flow with rangoli and traditional patterns and recreating the rural atmosphere on Saturday.
The school, which is located amid the concrete jungle of the urban lifestyle, was transformed into a rural setting with huts, bullock carts, traditional grinding stones, making of delicious sweets and other savouries in traditional firewood kitchens.
The colourful and grand rangolies with gobbemalu, Bhogi mantalu (bonfire), Bhogi pallu (a manner of blessing children), Godhadevi and Ranganayakulu kalyanam, Gangireddu, Haridasu, kite flying and fun and frolic marked the festivities.
To imbibe the cultural importance of the harvest festival, the school management had colourfully decorated the school premises with rangolies, kites, toys were tastefully arranged in rows for Bommala koluvu and a shower of ‘bhogi pallu (Indian Cherries) on the little ones, Gangireddu (decorated ox) and make-shift ‘bhogi mantalu’ (bonfire) were also set up.
The school had come alive with the little ones dressed in traditional attires taking part in a row of cultural activities with lots of enthusiasm. The Sankranthi is also celebrated as a harvest festival in parts of the country and the students were enlightened about the importance of the festival and the preparation of delicious dishes in Telangana such as Sakinalu, Ariselu, etc.
School chairman K Anantha Reddy, and Director K Sunita Reddy formally inaugurated the festival by lighting the lamp and offering prayers. They also participated in the Boghi pallu ceremony of pouring Indian berries on the children along with flowers to bless them.
