NIRMAL, AUGUST 19, 2024: The Nirmal district police have arrested a burglar involved in the stealing of hundi collections at Sri Gnana Saraswati Devasthanam in Basara and recovered the stolen amount of Rs 6,000 cash, a cellular phone, a motorcycle, a carry and dress worn by the accused during the conduct of offence in the temple.
Disclosing this to newsmen in Nirmal town on Monday, Superintendent of Police Dr Janaki Sharmila said that they had arrested Kosidiga Saikumar (21), a native of Nandigram village of Navipet mandal in Nizamabad district when he was moving under suspicious circumstances at Basara temple premises to commit another offence on Sunday. The accused broke into the Saraswathi temple by climbing over a wall broke a hundi and took away cash of Rs 14,200.
Taking serious note of the incident, the SP constituted special teams to nab the accused under the leadership of Bhainsa ASP Avinash Kumar, Mudhole Inspector Mallesh, Basara SI Ganesh, constable Mohan Singh and others. The team after studying the CCTV footage of the accused by using latest technology had nabbed the accused when visited Basara on Sunday to commit another offence following the arrival of scores of devotees.
Following interrogation, the accused confessed of stealing Rs 14,200 from the hundi. The accused was remanded to judicial custody on Monday. The SP congratulated the team for the detection of the crime with the arrest of the accused within three days after the crime.
The SP, who visited the scene of offence in the temple, inspected the entire temple vicinity and instructed the devasthanam authorities to install more CCTV cameras as there were several gaps in the temple. She also directed the temple authorities to construct a fence around the compound wall. She also informed the temple authorities to maintain 24×7 surveillance at the control room
