Kidnapped infant girl rescued within 24 hours, two held including a woman

KARIMNAGAR, FEBRUARY 19, 2024: The Karimnagar Town police on Monday arrested two persons and traced the infant girl, who was abducted from the Mother and Child Health Centre in Karimnagar town on Sunday.

A migrant labourer Nirmala (24) wife of Manojram, a native of Bihar state and residing at Asifnagar in Kothapalli mandal, gave birth to baby girl in the government hospital on February 16. On Sunday, when she developed convulsions, she was shifted to ICU. The baby was in general ward. On Sunday morning, Manojram kept a 11-year-old boy and his relative at the bedside and went out on work. When he returned, the infant was missing. Manojram lodge a complaint with the police.

Disclosing this to newsmen here on Monday, Karimnagar ACP Gopathi Narender said that the police formed special teams with Karimnagar two town, Task force and special branch and after analyzing the CCTV footages, they nabbed Mokkera Kavitha alias Padma (35) in Thakkalapalli village under Basanthnagar police station limits of Peddapalli district. During interrogation, she had confessed she had approached Erramraju Jaggamraju (75) of Jammikunta town, who suggested of kidnapping from government hospital.

Accordingly, she visited the hospital on Sunday and found an infant alone a small boy. As the boy could not communicate in Telugu, she informed that she would be taking infant for giving a vaccine and took her away. She boarded an auto outside the hospital and proceeded to bus station and boarded a bus to reach Jammikunta. Where, she had shown the infant to Jaggamraju, who is an RMP, tested her and said she was healthy and provided her milk.

Later, she boarded the bus and reached her native village Thakkalapalli. She said that she had abducted the girl as she was not having children and wanted to utilize the girl for her selfish needs after she grows up. The ACP congratulated the police team for nabbing the accused within 24 hours and handed over the infant to her parents. Karimnagar Two town inspector O Venkatesh, Jammikunta Inspector V Ravi, Task force CI Kiran Reddy and others were also present. Police registered a case under IPC sections 363, 363A, 365 and other sections.
