KARIMNAGAR, AUGUST 12, 2024: Strongly condemning the heinous rape and murder of a second-year postgraduate student of RG Kar Medical College in Kolkatta, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Karimnagar branch has demanded an impartial and thorough investigation of the case and punishment of the culprits.
The IMA Karimnagar chapter has organised a candle-light dharna in Karimnagar town at Indira chowk on Monday evening and expressed their concern and solidarity to the bereaved family members. Denouncing the heinous crime, the IMA doctors demanded that the culprit should be punished severely. Earlier, the IMA doctors presented a memorandum to the statue of Dr BR Ambedkar to protect the democracy and show no mercy to rapists.
“We demand that the authorities act with precision and in time of 48 hours, failing which IMA will be constrained to initiate nationwide action. A fair, transparent and time-sensitive criminal investigation is in order. An ultimatum of two days is given to arrest culprits, otherwise, IMA will take [out] nationwide protests,” IMA Karimnagar chapter president Dr Polasa Ram Kiaran, secretary Dr G Venkat Reddy. IMA leaders Dr Harikrishna, Dr Mallikarjuna, Dr Aleem, Dr Jaganmohan rao, Dr P Kishan, Dr Laxman, Dr Raj Kumar, Dr Sesha Shailaja, Dr Jhansi Laxmi, Dr Bhaskar Reddy, Dr Trinath Reddy and others participated in the programme.
