Farmer cultivating ‘ganja’ crop sentenced to undergo five years rigorous imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs 25,000

HYDERABAD, NOVEMBER 23, 2024: Sangareddy First Additional District and Sessions judge K Jayanthi on Saturday sentenced an accused farmer to undergo five years of rigorous imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs 25,000 on the charges of cultivation of contraband ganja in Peddaloni village of Mnipally mandal in Sangareddy district.

According to sources, the accused farmer Mangali Venkatesham (47) of Peddaloni village, had cultivated ganja crop along with other crops to reap riches. Following the information, Sangareddy Excise Inspector Madhubabu along with his team raided the fields and destroyed the ganja crop on November 6, 2018. A case was filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and a charge sheet was in the court.

After hearing the case, the Judge convicted the accused to undergo five years of rigorous imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs 25,000. Drugs Control Administration DG and Excise Enforcement Director VB Kamalasan Reddy congratulated the Sangaeddy Excise Inspector Madhubabu and Hyderabad Deputy Commissioner KAB Sastri for ensuring the conviction of the accused.
