DCA officials continue drive against quacks, falsely produced medicines and misleading claims of medicines

HYDERABAD, NOVEMBER 21, 2024:  Officials of Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, continued their drive against quacks, falsely produced medicines and misleading claims of certain medicines in the state on Wednesday.

In a statement here on Thursday, DCA Director-General VB Kamalasan Reddy said that on credible information, the officials raided the premises of a quack Sudhakar Boddula, at Narspur Village, Mancherial District, who was practicing medicine without proper qualification at his clinic. During the raid, DCA officials detected 76 varieties of medicines, including antibiotics, analgesics etc., found stocked at the premises without a drug licence. DCA officials seized the stock, worth a total of Rs. 35,000 during the raid. T. Chandana, Drugs Inspector, Mancherial, P. Shravan Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Peddapalli, Aswani, Drugs Inspector, Asifabad carried out the raid.

Seizure of drugs falsely manufactured and sold under the guise of ‘food products/nutraceuticals’

In another operation, the DCA officials detected drugs falsely manufactured and sold under the guise of ‘food products/nutraceuticals’ in Armoor, Nizamabad District and seized Ferrored-XT Tablets (Ferrous Ascorbate, Folic Acid & Zinc Tablets) circulating in the market.  The said products were falsely manufactured under a ‘food license (FSSAI license)’ and falsely claimed to be food products/nutraceuticals. According to the label composition of the products, they are classified as drugs under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. Anjum Abida, Assistant Director, Shameerpet, P. Ambedkar, Drugs Inspector, Medipally, G. Indira Priyadarshini, Drugs Inspector, Habsiguda, and R. Srilatha, Drugs Inspector, Nizamabad Rural are among the officers who carried out the raid.

Seizure of drugs for misleading advertisements:

The officials detected certain medicines circulating in the market with misleading claims on their labels, stating that they treat ‘Diabetes, Heart diseases, Obesity, Blood Pressure, Kidney Stones’. Such claims are in contravention of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954. They seized Daplimet 10  Tablets (Dapagliflozin Tablets), an Allopathic Medicine, claimed to treat ‘Diabetes’, Nuskha-E-Arabia, a Unani medicine, claimed to treat ‘Heart diseases, Obesity, Blood Pressure’, STONEGO-DS Syrup, an Ayurvedic medicine, claimed to treat ‘Kidney Stones’ and Urisafe Herbal Syrup, an Ayurvedic medicine, claimed to treat ‘Kidney Stones’.  G. Ravikiran, Drugs Inspector, Rajendranagar, Ch. Swapna, Drugs Inspector, Jubilee Hills, K. Anvesh, Drugs Inspector, Shabad and D. Swetha Bindu, Drugs Inspector, Gandipet are among the officers who carried out the raids.

The public may report any suspected manufacturing activity related to drugs, including narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, in residential, commercial, or industrial areas, as well as any other complaints regarding illegal activities concerning medicines, through the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana Toll-Free Number 1800-599-6969, which is operational from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm on all working days.
