HYDERABAD, DECEMBER 18, 2024: Officials of the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana raided a quack’s clinic and seized drugs stocked for sale at Agamothkoor Village, Madugulapally Mandal, Nalgonda District.
In a separate event, the DCA officials seized Numine-100 tablets (Thiamine Tablets 100mg) in Peddapalli, which were falsely manufactured and sold under the guise of ‘food products/nutraceuticals’. The officials also seized certain medicines due to misleading advertisements: EYECARE Eye Ointment, an Allopathic medicine, claimed ‘for Prophylaxis and treatment of Eye Infections’ and VATTI-VERU CHURNA, an Ayurvedic medicine, claimed to treat ‘Diabetes’.
In an official release here on Wednesday, DCA Director-General VB Kamalasan Reddy said that on credible information, Drugs Control Administration officials, on Tuesday raided the premises of a quack Parshanaboina Laxmaiah, at Agamothkoor Village, Madugulapally Mandal, Nalgonda District, who was practicing medicine without proper qualification at his clinic. During the raid, DCA officials detected 31 varieties of medicines, including antibiotics, steroids, analgesics, etc. stocked on the premises without a drug licence. Worth of the stock seized is Rs. 16,670. J. Ashwin Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Miryalaguda carried out the raid.
The DCA in Peddapalli have detected the product Numine-100 Tablets (Thiamine Tablets 100mg) circulating in the market. The product was found to be manufactured by MK Biotech, Ubhawal Road, Sangrur, Distt.Sangrur, Punjab and Marketed by Neuracle Lifesciences, Chandigarh. The drug inspectors of detected Nuumine-100 Tablets (Thiamine Tablets 100mg), that were circulating in Peddapalli and were falsely manufactured and sold under the guise of ‘food products/nutraceuticals’.
The said product was falsely manufactured under a ‘food license (FSSAI license)’ and falsely claimed to be a food product/nutraceutical. According to the label composition of the product, it is classified as a drug under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
The product must be manufactured only under a ‘drug licence’ issued under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, adhering strictly to the ‘Good Manufacturing Practices’ (GMP) outlined in Schedule-M of the Drugs Rules. Additionally, it must meet the quality standards prescribed in the ‘Indian Pharmacopoeia’ (IP) as mandated. P. Shravan Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Peddapalli carried out the raid.
Seizure of drugs for misleading advertisements:
The Drugs Control Administration, Telangana officials, detected certain medicines circulating in the market with misleading claims on their labels, stating that they treat ‘Diabetes’, ‘For Prophylaxis and treatment of Eye Infections’. Such claims are in contravention of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954 prohibits advertisement of certain drugs for treatment of certain diseases and disorders. No person shall take part in publication of advertisement regarding the diseases/disorders indicated under Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
During the raids conducted on 17th December to detect medicines moving in the market with misleading and objectionable advertisements, the following products were detected by DCA officials: T. Chandana, Drugs Inspector, Mancherial and E. Naresh Reddy, Drugs Inspector, Balanagar are among the officers who carried out the raids.
