DCA busts unauthorized manufacture of drugs and seize stocks worth Rs 2 crore in Bollaram

Officials also seize spurious drugs ‘Montek-LC’ tablets and certain medicines for misleading claims

HYDERABAD, JANUARY 01, 2025: In a breakthrough, officials of the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, busted the unauthorized manufacturing of certain drugs at Akron Formulations India Pvt. Ltd. in Bollaram Village, Jinnaram Mandal, Sangareddy District and seized stocks worth Rs. 2 Crores during the raid.

In a separate event, DCA, Telangana, seized Spurious Drugs (Counterfeit Versions) ‘Montek-LC’ Tablets (Montelukast Sodium and Levocetirizine Hydrochloride Tablets), falsely claimed to be manufactured by Sun Pharma Laboratories Ltd. During the raids conducted by DCA based on gathered intelligence, counterfeit versions of ‘Montek-LC’ Tablets were detected circulating in the market at Santoshnagar, Malakpet, Hyderabad. The stocks were seized during the raids.

In another operation, the DCA officials seized certain medicines due to misleading advertisements such as Konda Pindi Churnam, an Ayurvedic medicine, claimed to treat ‘Kidney Stones’ and P Mycetin Ointment, an Allopathic Medicine, claimed for ‘prophylaxis and treatment of infections of the eyes’.

In an official release here on Wednesday, DCA Director-General VB Kamalasan Reddy said that acting on credible information, the officials conducted a raid at Akron Formulations India Pvt. Ltd., located at Industrial Estate, Bollaram Village, Jinnaram Mandal, Sangareddy District, on Tuesday and detected unauthorized manufacturing of certain drugs such as Asperflex cream Topical Analgesic Cream, Medpura (Zinc Oxide 20 % Ointment), Ammonium lactate 12% Lotion and Ammonium lactate 12% Cream.

Huge stocks of the drugs as mentioned earlier, manufactured illegally without a drug license at the manufacturing facility, were seized: The DCA officials seized stocks worth Rs. 2 Crores during the raid and lifted samples for analysis. P. Ramu, Assistant Director, Patancheru, G. Prasad, Assistant Director, Ranga Reddy, G. Srikanth, Drugs Inspector, Bollaram,  M. Chandrasekhar, Drugs Inspector, Patancheru, T. Shiva Teja, Drugs Inspector, Kapra, E. Naresh Reddy, Drugs inspector, Balanagar were among the officers who carried out the raid.

Seizure of Spurious Drugs (Counterfeit Versions) ‘Montek-LC’ Tablets  

Based on intelligence gathered by Drugs Control Administration officials, raids were conducted at several dealers in Hyderabad, leading to the detection of Spurious Drugs (Counterfeit Versions) ‘Montek-LC’ Tablets (Montelukast Sodium and Levocetirizine Hydrochloride Tablets) circulating in the market. ‘Montek-LC’ Tablets are used to manage signs and symptoms of allergic rhinitis, chronic idiopathic urticaria and bronchial asthma.

Drugs Inspectors detained the stocks during the raids and obtained a comparison statement for the suspected batches from the original manufacturer, Sun Pharma Laboratories Ltd., with the original batches. The manufacturer also concluded that the batch of ‘Montek-LC’ Tablets (Montelukast Sodium and Levocetirizine Hydrochloride Tablets) detained by the Drugs Control Administration were “Spurious Drugs/Counterfeit Drugs”.

During the raid conducted on 31st December 2024 at Hyper Pharma, Door No.: 17-1-375/1/1/3, Shop No 34, Santosh Nagar, Malakpet, Hyderabad, a counterfeit version of ‘Montek-LC’ Tablets (Montelukast Sodium and Levocetirizine Hydrochloride Tablets), Batch No.: SIE1911A, Mfg. Date: 07/2023, Exp. Date: 12/2025, falsely claimed to be manufactured by Sun Pharma Laboratories Ltd., Plot No.107-108, Namli Block, P.O Ranipool, East- Sikkim. G. Anil, Drugs Inspector, Malakpet and B. Govind Singh, Drugs Inspector, Secunderabad carried out the raids.

Seizure of drugs for misleading advertisements:

The DCA officials detected certain medicines circulating in the market with misleading claims on their labels, stating that they treat, ‘Kidney Stones’, and ‘For Prophylaxis and Treatment of Eye Infections’. Such claims are in contravention of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.

During the raids conducted on 31st December 2024, to detect medicines moving in the market with misleading and objectionable advertisements, the following products such as Konda Pindi Churnam, an Ayurvedic medicine, claimed to treat ‘Kidney Stones’ and P Mycetin Ointment, an Allopathic Medicine, claimed for ‘prophylaxis and treatment of infections of the eyes’ in Mehdipatnam and Nizamabad. P. Santosh, Drugs Inspector, Mehdipatnam and V. Srikanth, Drugs Inspector, Nizamabad Urban are among the officers who carried out the raids.
