She advised farmers to use different varieties of cotton seeds to reap riches
The Collector also educates the farmers to collect the bills from the private seed vendors
KARIMNAGAR, MAY 31, 2024: Collector Pamela Satpathy informs the farming community not to rely solely one branded seed for the cultivation of cotton crop and suggested them to use to different varieties of cotton seeds to reap riches by adopting the traditional methods of farming.
The Collector makes a surprise inspection of various seeds and fertilizers shops at Gandhi road in Karimnagar town on Friday. On this occasion, the Collector inquired with the dealers about the purchase of various varieties of cotton seeds. When the traders informed that the farmers were showing only for a particular brand of cotton seeds, the Collector asked what the reason is for the farmers showing preference only for a particular brand of cotton seeds.
She checked the register and inquired whether they were enrolling the names as per the norms. She also interacted with a farmer over phone after purchase of particular brand of cotton seeds. She personally inspected the cotton seed packets.
In order to check sale of spurious and substandard quality seeds, the Collector asked farmers to not forget to collect billing receipts from the shopkeepers. She informed all government agencies selling seeds provide a receipt to the farmers on purchase of seeds from them. However, the private seed sellers often do not provide any receipt. In the absence of a receipt, the administration fails to take any action against the seed seller if the seeds fail to germinate or any other problem arises, as the farmers do not have any evidence about the purchase of the seeds.
The Collector has also advised the farmers to report any shopkeeper who does not provide them the receipt or is reluctant to do so. She has also asked the field officials of the department to keep a check on the shops selling seeds and take action if they find any shopkeeper not issuing receipts. District Agriculture Officer B Srinivas, Karimnagar ADA Ranadheer Reddy, Karimnagar urban agriculture officer Haritha and others were also present.
